By Elizabeth Nitz
This cannot be a debut CD. The sound is too refined, the production too professional, and the songwriting too incredible and diverse. Katy Pfaffl will have to work hard to top this release.
The sound is created around her magnificent voice and a host of talented musicians of every flavor. The usual drums, bass and guitars are there plus organ, djembe, Vibro-slap, congas, and Katy herself on acoustic guitar and violin. She must be a perfectionist because she produced it herself with the help of her fellow musicians. The quality rivals top label releases.
Katy's jazz and funk influenced music resembles show tunes at times, like in "So Far Away" where her vocal showing off displays her range and varying style. "Walk Away" has a retro wah-wah feel and is only missing a live horn section and a leisure suit.
"Inside" is as close to pop as she gets, and even it has a funky Latin bridge complete with congas and a xylophone to keep it from getting too mainstream. Watch this woman.
